Ann Ayre Hely

 Ann Ayre Hely (nee Bradshaw) was born in the village of Ravenstone in 1819. In March 1855 she travelled out with a party of volunteers to become a nurse in the military hospitals of the Crimean War. She was an excellent nurse and very highly thought of. In 1897, she was awarded the Order of the Royal Red Cross, military nursing medal.

In 2018, a Green Plaque was installed on the wall of Ravenstone Hospital in her memory. Here are some photographs of the unveiling ceremony on 27th September 2018.
